34 unregistered Companies awarded over N6 Billion Naira Contracts

Former Army Boss Ibrahim Salihu said some years that Nigeria is a country where anything goes. The unthinkably bad things in other parts of the world happen freely in Nigeria. Lawlessness, especially executive lawlessness has remained the order of the day. Even, foreigners who import fake and adulterated drugs into the country have been quoted as saying that they did not know that there were standards in Nigeria!!!! As far as they were concerned anything goes

How we have proved this again before the whole world.  In the glare of International Televisions it was revealed that under a government that introduced due process and, supposedly heightened the fight against corruption, contracts running into several billions would be awarded to unregistered companies and, the central bank would remit money to these companies. Isn€„¢t it time we probe the due process office and make them more accountable to the public.

A total of 34 companies that were not registered with the CAC won contracts totaling N6 billion. This done under the watch of Former Minister of Power, and now Ondo State Governor, whose shocking defense is that as a minister, he could only sign contracts below N20million, while anything above the amount goes to the Federal Executive Council.

Etteh another controversial public officer when confronted with the fac t that her office had awarded contracts to unregistered companies said that it was not he business to cross check€¦..yet the buck stopped at their tables!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The implications of the statements attributed to Agagu are far reaching. It is an admission of failure, at best. He did not ask important questions. Would Agagu eat just anything served him on the table without asking questions, because he is nit the cook? Were the money his personal resources would he not have asked questions about the company, their and abilities? Â

Secondly, was Agagu aware of these facts before the House Committee raised the matter? If he was aware of them what did he do? Who did he alert? If he was not aware of them, then the people of Ondo State are trouble because by the time he finishes with Ondo, with his, now known, lack of reality checks, attention to vital details, benchmarks, and ability to know what is right, only God knows what damage would have been done to Ondo State. Third, with this confession, it is necessary for a full probe to be ordered into the tenure of Agagu at the Ministry, for only God knows what other things he did not cross check. Furthermore, a careful look at his defense is that the Contracts were so huge that they were approved by the Executive Council. Is he saying that we should blame. Assuming that approvals were made by the EXCO, who raises the MEMO and presents it to the EXCO?

In anycase, I can say without any fear of contradiction that, he is just being plain dishonest in the assertion. The contactors did not emerge from public bidding or advertisements. Most likely, they are his kinsmen and allies. That they did not execute the jobs and have not been taken to EFCC and ICPC shows that these are known bandits, enemies of the people of Nigeria.

What a shame that we are allowed our destiny in the hands of people who say its not their job to check
