Former Nigerian Labour Congress President, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole was on Thursday afternoon handed over an Easter gift. He was declared winner of the April 14, 2007 gubernatorial polls in Edo State. The Six hour judgement carefully excluded all the additional votes awarded the PDP by the Independent Electoral Commission (INC).
After the deductions the Action Congress Candidate won by a slim majority votes .
This judgment is unique to the extent that it is the first judgment that has thrown out a governor on the basis of electoral fraud . The election Tribunal in Benue also annulled several elections for failure to comply with the Electoral Act. Senate President David Mark, who as Communications Minister said that Telephones were not for the poor is now on borrowed time.
The good thing about the Edo judgment is the fact that the Tribunal showed that it had gone through the evidence brought before it.
And indeed, the AC and Adams must be commended for providing the Tribunal with so much information.
At least, now it has been shown that rigging does not pay
