The news that President Umaru Musa Yar Adua was heckled in Jos is not all surprising. Indeed, most of the governors today cannot freely go about in the public. They have reduced governance top mere thievery. They have successfully turned themselves to public enemies number one.
How did we reach this low level?
Yar Adua raided hopes. He promised electoral reforms. A committee was set up and it submitted its report. Now we are being told by members of the Presidential committee that the promised reforms may have being mere gimmicks to give the public time to forget the pains of the rape it was subjugated to in April 2007. Besides, the campaign against corruption seems to have lost bearing. The system is as corrupt as before. While other leaders are busy marshalling plans to get their economies out of the present economic woes, not only is the naira being devalued, wages are falling, workers are losing their jobs and despite the emergency declared over the power crisis Nigeria is darker than before.
